Feeling super excited for our month long internship in Japan. Being merely 19, going abroad on our own and working, is a totally new experience. In addition, we feel very lucky to be given this opportunity as compared to our peers in our country, Singapore.
Ohh, almost forgot to introduce ourselves. We are Vanessa and Natalie, currently students waiting to enter University.
And so with that, we start our journey...
We are boarding our flight, YAYYY
Lunch was served and it was deep fried fish with soba.
After a 7 hour loooonnnggg flight, we were welcomed by our boss, Fujimori san in Haneda Airport.
Super enthu, nice and friendly kekekeke^^
We are really glad and thankful to be given this chance by Fujimori san and his company
After settling down at our apartment, we went to hunt for food like a hyena searching for food.
And Fujimori brought us to his favourite ramen restaurant.
.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and served delicious ramen. Although Singapore is famous for their delicacies as well as variety of food, from Chinese to Indian to Western to even Korean and Japanese etc. The ramen we tasted was vastly different from the one in Singapore. From the preparation to the serving to how we are supposed to consume it.
Unlike Chinese culture where eating and slurping the noodles loudly is considered rude, in the Japanese culture, the louder you slurp shows how delicious and satisfied you are with the food. We had much trouble trying to make the slurping sound.
So here we are the next day...
Woke up early in the morning feeling excited about our first day of work.
Feeling nervous because we dont know what to expect of them and of ourselves. The moment we stepped into Japan, we had to throw our Singaporean culture and working style aside. But nevertheless, we are ready to take on this challenge.
Bring it on!!
As soon as we stepped into the office we were greeted by our colleagues. Although they do not speak much english, they still try to open up to us. Fujimori then gave an introduction into the jewellery business and his company. Even though neither of us are studying to be in this industry, we were still fascinated and thrilled to learn and gain more knowledge.
With that, we started our workshop on engraving.
With that, we started our workshop on engraving.
It is not as easy as it seems. We actually messed up quite a few times. The words were either not properly aligned or we didnt put in enough pressure ):
Here`s a photo of the practice. Looks bad right? );
After practice, we started...on the REAL thing
After polishing, here`s the final product.
TADAHHH!~
And that concludes Day 1 of life of an intern.
